Snow on the ground
my grandpa is driving his BMW
very fast.
He skids into a snow bank
slides around in loops
I get out
push the car,
the small toy car with my family
in it.
I spin the car with my hand
and get back inside.
I have to shrink myself
to fit in the toy sized car
and get out again
to push the oncoming car
out of the way.
We get back to the house I
lived in 5 years ago
Olga from Germany
is visiting my parents and I
have a crush on her.
She is standing
silhouetted by the new bay window
installed in the kitchen.
She sleeps in the basement
and eats the bagels in the morning
but I can’t tell her how I feel.
She does not speak English.
I realize too late
the car is the same size as me
I didn’t have to go to the effort
of shrinking down
which takes tremendous concentration
I could have just
slipped into the
leather seat,
fullsize, next to Olga.
But the car drives away
to safety
and I wake up,
realizing my mistake too late.
